Wave, the first step towards your well-being
The new digital platform for the Wave project (Wellbeing and Assistance for Valuable Education) went live on Monday, June 8. This strategic initiative, launched by an academic network led by Sapienza, was created to place the psychological and physical well-being of the individual at the heart of university life. Wave offers tools and services designed to unlock everyone’s potential, creating a synergy between psychology, art and sport – three complementary channels that combine mindful listening, creativity and physical training.
To support students on this journey, a portal has been created to connect students from partner universities with free personal development and well-being services. Developed to be accessible both via the web and through mobile apps linked to Sapienza's systems, the digital platform is a single, guided access point that brings together the project’s full range of services, allowing students to book psychological consultations, motor-cognitive activities and art workshops, and to monitor their progress whilst ensuring full respect for privacy.
Over the last 20 months, Sapienza’s Mental Health Counselling service has conducted nearly 6,000 sessions, taking on almost 1,200 cases (63% female, 36% male, with the remainder comprising transgender or non-binary people); in particular, around 17% of the sessions were conducted in English with international or Erasmus students. The majority of users, 62%, sought help for emotional/relational and/or psychological difficulties, including personal issues affecting their studies, family and relationship problems, whilst 25% sought help for difficulties related to their studies or university career, such as difficulties in continuing or completing their degree, preparing for and sitting exams, as well as difficulties settling into university life. Despite these difficulties, more than one in four users has a grade point average above 28, and overall 80% have a grade point average above 24 and are progressing with their studies.
