The Historical Archive Unit, established in 2009, is responsible for safeguarding, protecting, enhancing and promoting Sapienza's historical documentary heritage in order to organise and offer a privileged environment for study and research.

A cooperation project with the Department of Letters and Modern Cultures has been underway since 2017. This collaboration has enabled the various Central Administration archives to be catalogued, their contents assessed, and documents selected for permanent retention or disposal in accordance with the Piano di conservazione drawn up in 2022. 2022.

NOTICE TO USERS

Suspension of consultation services – August 3–31, 2026

Access to the Historical Archive collections is suspended from August 3 to August 31.

Consultation requests submitted by July 30 will be processed and the relevant materials retrieved according to standard procedures; however, the materials will only be available for viewing starting September 1, by appointment and subject to schedule availability.

Please note the following:

• access to the study room is by appointment only; to book an appointment, please email settorearchiviostorico@uniroma1.it;
• requests must include the completed consultation form, specifying the items and the research topic (maximum of 5 items per day);
• retrieval of materials from storage takes place every Friday; requests must be received between Monday and Thursday (by 1:00 PM);
• staff from the Historical Archive Unit will inform users of the earliest available dates for consultation.
