Social Sustainability Report
The Social Sustainability Report provides an annual update on Sapienza's progress against the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. The results are presented in the sections on the different activities, and a table at the end allows you to search the contents for each goal.
The 2025 Social Sustainability Report was prepared in accordance with the Social and Sustainability Reporting Standard developed by RUS and the Gruppo Bilancio e Sostenibilità (GBS). The report highlights the results achieved in terms of services provided to the community and links initiatives and actions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It describes Sapienza's commitment to sustainability in all its dimensions: social, environmental and economic.
Among its awareness-raising campaigns, in 2025 Sapienza, as it does every year, actively took part in the Giornata nazionale del risparmio energetico e degli stili di vita sostenibili (National Day for Energy Saving and Sustainable Lifestyles - M’illumino di Meno), promoted by Radio2. A week of initiatives focusing on the environmental impact of fast fashion culminated in the traditional switching-off of the lights in the Rectorate building. During the Open Days, the No Food Waste initiative was held, with vouchers distributed to redeem surplus food at participating catering outlets.
Throughout the year, significant efforts were devoted to SDG 5 – Gender Equality, particularly to combating gender-based violence. Deeply affected by the femicide of student Ilaria Sula, the Sapienza community responded with active participation and a strong sense of awareness. Following an initial event featuring personal testimonies, concrete initiatives were launched: a study room was dedicated to Ilaria, a thesis award was established in her memory, and, on November 25, Sapienza adopted a new Code of Conduct for the Protection of Human Dignity and the Prevention of Harassment (available in Italian and English).
With regard to the SDGs relating to social and political issues, in 2025 Sapienza's commitment to fighting the mafia, linked to SDG 16 Peace and Justice, Strong Institutions, was maintained with its participation in the Giornata della memoria e dell’impegno in ricordo delle vittime delle mafie on March 21, with numerous initiatives organised by the faculties and student associations to promote legality.
